VCU School of Nursing is one of the many schools that offer a licensed, baccalaureate and post graduate degrees in nursing in the United States, and also one of the oldest nursing schools in the country. The VCU School of Nursing was the idea of a physician who wanted to create an institution that would create the best nurses who are able to provide the best quality of care across all kinds of patients – and this came true in 1893.

After more than a century of existence, the VCU School of Nursing continues its legacy of being able to develop and take good care of the profession which used to be a vocation to many people back then. The single classroom set up has greatly improved and the VCU School of Nursing is currently accommodating an estimate of one thousand students in every enrollment. Moreover, the apprentice mentoring of the nursing profession has drastically changed to VCU School of Nursing now offering tracks and programs for all types of students planning to take nursing as a profession from BSN Degree, Masters Degree up to doctoral programs.

Even though the VCU School of Nursing boasts of its tradition, it has also moved from the overly used didactic teaching methods to the students of VCU School of Nursing undergoing a comprehensive and well planned learning experience in clinical simulation laboratories, science classrooms, and clinical experiences in well recognized institutions such as VCU Medical Center and other settings of nursing care such as communities and physician offices.

VCU School of Nursing also takes pride in the helpful staff and faculty that does not only help the students in their academic endeavors but also professional and personal advice. The desire of the VCU School of Nursing to further expand the science of nursing in education and research has been recognized and appreciated by different organizations such as the National Institutes of Health ranking them as one of the 25 best schools of nursing.

The VCU School of Nursing also houses the Gamma Omega Chapter of the Honor Society for Nursing. It was created in 1978 and has always aimed to maximize the opportunities geared to development of nursing as a field of knowledge, growing profession, and service oriented task. Aside from this organization, VCU School of Nursing is also affiliated with other institutions such as biostatistics, public health and other research departments.

The VCU School of Nursing also offers student friendly campuses and facilities like the library provide an atmosphere that is conducive for learning. There are also student organizations and extracurricular activities that are to be surely enjoyed and provide a holistic experience.

The VCU School of Nursing has been in existence for more than a hundred years, and is certainly an institution that has developed and is still creating a new breed of nurse practitioners and nurse leaders. The VCU School of Nursing has also proven that one does not need to change itself in so many ways but can maintain its tradition without compromising its excellence.
