What are the best nursing schools in America, and what made them so? There are more than three million registered nurses in America, and majority of them work in hospitals. More than 400,000 nurses have master degrees, and 28,000 of nurses have finished their doctorates. The best nurses are from the best nursing schools, because these schools provide something that other schools cannot. Here are the top 10 schools in nursing, with some tidbits of interesting facts:

1. Johns Hopkins University (4.6/5) – Currently known as one of the best nursing schools in the world, Hopkins actually has campuses in other parts of the world. Most people might not know it, but Hopkins has a campus in Singapore, Italy and China.

2. University of Pennsylvania (4.6/5) – Commonly known as UPenn, the University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy League University, falling just below Princeton, Yale, Colombia and Harvard. US News has always ranked UPenn on and above top three.

3. University of Washington (4.6/5) – The University of Washington is currently one of the biggest and the best nursing schools in the US, and their nursing programs has always been in the top number 1 spot ever since rankings and surveys have been conducted, the first one being in 1984.

4. University of California, San Francisco (4.5/5) – The University of California in San Francisco, abbreviated as UCSF, is a public university, education and research center. All branches of nursing such as pediatric, practitioner and psychiatric ranked in the top 10.

5. University of South Carolina at Chapel Hill (4.5/5) – Undergraduates of the University of South Carolina start studying general education, which will give the students a chance to pick a course after this. This means that the students start with Liberal Arts and more on to Arts and Sciences afterwards.

6. University of Michigan (4.4/5) – Did you know that the University of Michigan was founded long before the state of Michigan was officially a state? That could really count for something when it comes to the best nursing schools.

7. Duke University (4.3/5) – Research is big on Duke University, spending more than $650 million in research. It is also one of the top performing schools in North Carolina.

8. Oregon Health and Science University (4.3/5) – Oregon Health and Science University was known as the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center for 27 years, from 1974-2001. It is a new school, but it is considered one of the best nursing schools.

9. University of Pittsburgh (4.3/5) – Pitt’s College of Nursing is the second highest in rank of all the colleges in it, the first being Physical Therapy.

10. Yale University (4.3/5) – Possibly one of the most famous universities in the world, Yale was established in 1701, but Yale’s School of Nursing was founded much, much later in 1923.

The best nursing schools in the US are known individually, not only for the performance of their graduate students, but also their facilities and the courses that they offer. They are very different from one another, but their ability to produce top performing nurses have made them the best nursing schools.
